In an effort to revive some of the most popular shows previously aired on The WB, Warner Brothers chose to use a more modern approach to traditional marketing provided by the Gold Group and Gold Mobile.
Through a new website, TheWB.com, Warner Brother's is releasing show favorites for online viewing such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill. Warner Brothers would like to generate interest and buzz online about TheWB.com to spread the word to fans of these shows will be available on the new website. The targeted age demographic for this initiative is females, ages 16-24.
While providing The WB with full social media services, Gold Group incorporated the mobile services of Gold Mobile to maximize their outreach results.
A mobile widget was produced whereby fans can download "wallpaper" to their mobile phone for free. The widget offers fans a selection of six mobile phone wallpapers (featuring each show's casts) to send to mobile phones.
The campaign works like this:
- Fans visit the TheWB.goldmo.com and select their favorite WB show
- Fans enter their mobile phone information (i.e. mobile phone number and carrier) and "submit"
- A text message is sent to the mobile number with a link to download the free wallpaper
